Poddle’s First Flight is a picture book for children aged 3 to 8 which is aimed at education through the story. When a smart little piglet, called Poddle, reads a poem about pigs having wings, it starts him dreaming of flying. And thus begins his exploration into the basics of flight dynamics.
Of course, Poddle’s flying attempts don’t work out as planned.
However, the story does end on a positive note as he finally gets to fly, though not quite as he’d planned.
The story was inspired by Delphine who has a degree in aeronautical engineering from Imperial College, London University. The illustrations are bright, filled with colour and spectacular fun-filled imagery designed to draw out simple basics of the mechanics of flight: Thrust, Lift, Weight and Drag.
The story ends with a “Fun Things to Learn” page on these basics.
